“What can we say about Ms. Marzena Jones? She is just amazing. Being that she's from the land of Chopin, she is an excellent pianist and piano/vocal teacher. What more, she does not only focus on classical music, but she also does Jazz and contemporary. We have been extremely happy and grateful to have her as the piano/music teacher to our 3 children. Since the eldest child, we've been sending our children to study music/piano under Ms. Jones for 8.5 years. Our children reach new heights every year, evident in their MTAC Certificate of Merit (CM) honors, and Piano Guild certification. They not only advance in their piano skills, but also in confidence, and other musical interests (other instruments and vocal). Our children now participate in various musical/vocal performances. Few points about Ms Jones :
1. Understands children and child psychology well. Since piano/musical talent can be buried like a diamond in the rough this is important in empowering your child, and bringing out the best in your child. It's also art, not science or math (though some math is involved), so a child who's not artistically expressive may not necessarily shines through right away.
2. Open minded about your and your child preferences. She understands how different child has different personality and preferences in playing style, communication style, and also listens to parents' concerns. It's also important to peek a child's interest in such large instrument that can be intimidating, especially for recital performances.
3. Extremely artistic and talented. She strives to make our children make beautiful sounding music. She identifies areas for improvements seamlessly. She doesn't just teach piano/music; she teaches ARTFUL music/piano playing with the attention to details so the child can produce beautiful musical sound, and not just playing by sight reading sheet music, although she also emphasizes on accurate sight reading.
4. Demanding and challenging, but fun. She demands your child(ren) to do well in different ways, tailored to their personalities, and challenges them accordingly. We have 3 children and they are all different. Our 1st child is more motivated and challenged with classical, romantic period, with a lot of focus on fingering techniques. Our 2nd child is more challenged with jazz and shuffle, and dynamics. She puts together repertoire that fits each of them very well. What's interesting, she created duets out of our 2nd and 3rd children. That's a lot of fun for them.
5. Flexible with her timing and can adjust to your schedule. This is important as your children grows and enters higher school grades with all other extracurricular activities.”
